George Grosz, (1893 – 1959)is mostly known for his contributions to German Expressionism, Dada and the New Objectivity movement. His relief prints are symbolic of the German angst and disillusionment brought on by decades of war and abuse and much of his work expressing anti-Nazi sentiments. Grosz spent more than 27 years in the United States (1933-1958), and this watercolor was created during his extended stay in Rhode Island and nicely expresses his romantic view of the American landscape and culture.
