I strive to build interactive sculptures that create a personal experience of visual discovery. Generating the emotional thrill that arises with the ideas of “without” and “within,” each viewer has the opportunity to develop a relationship with the work, just as a reader creates a relationship with the cover of a book and its infinitely more subtle and variable contents.

Using glass, ceramic, wood and non-silver photography together not only generates ideas new to each medium, but makes it possible for me to express a variety of complex and intimate connections between the viewer and the work. As the sense of touch is utilized, a plethora of textures and visuals creates the gateway to a deeper sense of intimacy not only with the work itself but with the ideas it expresses.

My work is inspired by architecture, mythologies, icons, poetry, and literature. By piecing together form, text, and image I attempt to investigate connections between the innermost human spirit and nature. This union of soul and surface illuminates the complex relationship that creates the differences, and the similarities, between what is without and what is within.
