For the past four
years I have been making acrylic paintings using images taken from a
variety of sources and removed from their original context. The
images are chosen for their ability to communicate thoughts and
ideas I have about living in this place at this time in history. The
recent work exploits three areas of interest: image as metaphor,
color as subject matter, and a blurring of the line between private
and public experiences.
The Tongue Twisted Soul series are three-subject paintings
constructed around
representations of the body, mind, and spirit. All of my work is
based on an aesthetic of collage and reflects the “cut and paste”
nature of contemporary life. I like the iconic affect of a single,
isolated image floating in a sea of color. It is important to me
that the images maintain their appearance and association with the
real world.
