Artist Statement and Resume

Art has become the intermediary to a personal way of exploring my distrust for figures or institutions of authority and intemperate systems of power, which I suspect at times are offering negligible contribution to the world and ultimately to the spirit. Madness, otherness, mythology, folklore and personal observations are themes explored within my work and a way of expounding on my feelings about life, certainly my past, art, art history, the ugly, the disenfranchised, beauty and what is considered acceptable or perhaps not. This series was first conceived as a series of imaginary portraits of asylum inmates, characters wearing tatters of a former life, of faded glory or costumed as their alter egos, perhaps hinting at a circus world but continue to transcend that initial concept. Turning a deaf ear to the echoes has relaxed the nagging sense of being too often on the outside looking in; an artist is an observer, and gazing from the outside, I find, has its advantages, inspiration and musings.
