My paintings are abstract acrylics inspired by
Australian Aboriginal design. The laying down of thousands of tiny
dots on the canvas is a form of meditation that restores balance to
my day to day life.
My love of art originates from early childhood. My father is a
professional artist who encouraged drawing and painting, yet I
didn't go on to study art formally. I was in my 40's before I
actually started painting seriously. It was a visit to Australia in
1997 that most influences the work I do today, I have been painting
dots ever since.
My paintings are almost entirely unplanned, evolving as I make them.
First I choose the colors I want to work with; I use three or four
colors at most and use tints, tones, and shades of each. I use a
rubber tipped brush in one hand, taking paint from a brush in the
other hand, and rhythmically putting down dot after dot in repeating
patterns. I prefer to work on a table so I can easily turn the
canvas as I go. Acrylic paint dries fast so I can move around the
surface quickly.
Each painting has a pulse of its own that comes from deep inside of
me. It's as if I release pent up energy that translates to the
movement and vibration of the painting.
